What is a Crisis?

If you know anyone who may be in immediate danger, contact University Police by dialing 911 from a campus landline or (631) 632-3333 from a cell phone or off-campus phone.

A crisis can take many forms. It may involve:

  • An intense emotional reaction to a difficult event
  • Overwhelming feelings that are hard to manage
  • Anger that is difficult to control
  • Self-injury
  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Strange thoughts or behaviors

No Stony Brook student should face a crisis alone. Help is always available.
