Services We Offer
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a range of confidential services to support students’ emotional health, personal growth, and academic success. Whether you’re seeking one-on-one counseling, group support, couples therapy, or medication management, our licensed professionals are here to help. We also offer 24/7 crisis support and referrals to off-campus providers for specialized or long-term care. No matter where you are on your mental health journey, CAPS is a safe and welcoming space to find the support you need.

This is a powerful and supportive form of therapy where a small group of students (usually 5 to 8) meets weekly with a trained counselor for 1–2 hours. Group members work together to share experiences and offer support.

The CAPS psychiatric team offers medication management for students who may benefit from psychotropic medication to support their mental health.
LEARN MOREReferral Services
Some students may need or prefer to see a mental health provider outside the university for longer-term, specialized, or personalized care. The CAPS Case Management team can help connect you with off-campus providers that fit your needs, location, and insurance.
LEARN MORECrisis Management
The CAPS Crisis Line is available 24/7, year-round, for Stony Brook students in need of immediate mental health support. Licensed counselors are ready to help with crises such as panic attacks, trauma, hopelessness, or suicidal thoughts.
