Couples Counseling at CAPS

Couples counseling offers a private and supportive environment where partners can openly explore their relationship and address its challenges with the guidance of a trained counselor. These sessions help couples build understanding, improve communication, and strengthen their connection.

Common reasons couples seek counseling include:

  • Communication difficulties
  • Uncertainty about the future of the relationship
  • Cheating or infidelity

CAPS follows a brief, goal-oriented treatment model, typically consisting of 5 to 10 sessions. Our short-term approach is designed to help couples move forward with clarity, resilience, and a stronger foundation. Couples who require longer services to achieve their goals may be referred to providers in the community.

Eligibility:
Couples counseling is available only to couples in which both partners are currently enrolled Stony Brook University students.

Couples counseling is available to all students, regardless of gender-identity, sexual-orientation or relationship status.
