How CAPS Can Support You

College can be an exciting time—but it may also bring stress, uncertainty, and emotional challenges. At some point, many students find themselves struggling with feelings or situations that are difficult to manage alone. You might feel overwhelmed, anxious, isolated, or simply not yourself.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, gain perspective, and build effective strategies for navigating life’s challenges. You don’t need to be in crisis to seek help. Many students come to counseling to work through everyday concerns with a trained professional who listens and supports.

Common reasons students seek support at CAPS include:

  • Stress, anxiety, or depression — including social anxiety or feeling disconnected
  • Relationship issues — conflicts with roommates, partners, friends, or family
  • Adjusting to college life — or navigating a new culture and environment
  • Identity exploration — support around race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or cultural background
  • Experiences of oppression or discrimination
  • Low self-esteem or confidence
  • Academic pressure — managing workload, motivation, or learning concerns
  • Lifestyle challenges — sleep, eating habits, or substance use
  • Grief and loss
  • Coping with trauma or an upsetting life event

CAPS follows a brief therapy model focused on helping you move forward with the clarity and tools to support your well-being. While we are equipped to address many student concerns, some situations may require longer-term treatment or specialized care. If that’s the case, we’ll work with you to connect you with appropriate resources in the community.
