Julia Thuvesen, Violin

Julia Thuvesen

Born in Sweden in 2002, pianist Julia Thuvesen is establishing an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. In 2020, she won a national piano competition in Sweden, and the following year she was accepted to the Academy of Music and Opera, Mälardalen University, where she studied with Prof. Staffan Sandström (Stony Brook alumnus) as her principal teacher, as well as with Magnus Svensson, specializing in Art Song repertoire.

During her undergraduate studies, Julia distinguished herself as a versatile chamber musician and collaborative pianist, while also performing as a soloist with orchestra on several occasions in Sweden. In 2025, she became the first international exchange student at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi, where she worked with some of Vietnam’s leading teachers and concluded her residency with a recital featuring music by Rachmaninov, Debussy, Boulez, and Tarrodi. Her performance engagements have also brought her to concert stages across Scandinavia, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United States. Furthering her performance career, Julia was invited to the Miami International Piano Festival in 2024 and 2025, where she worked closely with internationally renowned artists including Steven Osborne, Stephen Beus, Giselle Brodsky, Dmitri Ablogin, Albert Cano Smit, and Kemal Gekić. She has also participated in masterclasses with distinguished pedagogues such as Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist, Jeff Cohen, Olivier Godin, and Francis Perron.

Alongside her performing career, Julia has gained experience as a teacher in both individual and group settings, and she is committed to fostering the next generation of musicians. In fall 2025, she moved to the United States to pursue her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at Stony Brook University, where she is working as a Teaching Assistant in the piano program.
