Taylor Peterson

Passionate about teaching, Dr. Taylor Peterson is the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at Stony Brook University, where he assists with all aspects of the athletic band program. He is proud to be a part of an organization that brings Seawolf spirit to all corners of Stony Brook University and the surrounding community. Peterson is also glad to be conducting the Stony Brook Wind Ensemble for the 2025-26 school year. In addition to his work at Stony Brook, he is the Applied Adjunct Instructor of Low Brass at Suffolk County Community College in Selden. Peterson also maintains a brass teaching studio at Laconia Music Center in New Hyde Park, NY, teaching private lessons to students of all ages.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Peterson is an active New York City-based performer. He frequently performs on trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, and tuba for orchestras, theatrical productions, chamber concerts, parades, big bands and live TV broadcasts. He holds the position of bass trombonist with the Fort Greene Orchestra. Recent highlights include performing alongside Jack Black on Saturday Night Live, as well as performing at Carnegie Hall with the New Manhattan Sinfonietta. Peterson can be seen performing with the New York City Brass Choir, Five Borough Brass Ensemble, and the Island Chamber Brass.

Peterson holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University, where he previously earned his Master of Music in Trombone Performance. Prior to moving to New York, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. He is a member of NAfME and is the first honorary member of the Xi Delta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Stony Brook University.
