We’re so excited to welcome you and your student to Stony Brook University as we kick off an unforgettable first week on campus! Join us for our Family BBQ events for a chance to meet campus staff, connect with other families, and celebrate the beginning of your student’s journey.

Throughout the week, your student will take part in a range of orientation activities designed to help them transition smoothly into life at SBU.

New Seawolf Welcome is a valuable opportunity for your student to not only learn about important Stony Brook campus resources and services, but also get better acquainted with the campus and meet new friends and classmates. Please remind your student to log in to SB Engaged, Stony Brook’s campus engagement platform, to view their individualized schedule of orientation events and activities.

Please also remind your student about attending the required programming and encourage them to attend daytime and evening recommended programming during this week. Your student can find information in the New Seawolf Welcome Fall 2025 event in SB Engaged. You can also find the list on the Schedule at a Glance. Required programming is noted with a symbol.

In addition, you’re invited to attend the New Seawolf and Family Welcome BBQ on Monday, August 18 or Tuesday, August 19 from 12 pm to 3 pm at the Staller Steps. Enjoy school spirit, a delicious meal and say farewell to your student!
- If your student is living on campus, you are invited to the BBQ on their move-in date either Monday, August 18 or Tuesday, August 19.
- If your student is commuting, you can join us for both the BBQ and Commuter Expo on Tuesday, August 19 from 5 pm to 7 pm in the Stony Brook Union.
