Double Majors
Applied math majors are encouraged to consider a double major (or minor) in another
discipline. The most frequent choices of AMS double majors are computer science and
economics.
Students in other majors who are considering applied math as a second major are encouraged
first to select individual AMS courses on the basis of their academic interests or
career needs. Only after a student has taken several AMS courses should they decide
on applied math as a second major.
Minor in Applied Math
The minor in applied mathematics and statistics is designed for students who take a limited amount of mathematics in their major.
BS-MS Accelerated Program
The accelerated Bachelor of Science-Master of Science allows a student to earn the BS and MS degrees in five years. Only 114 undergraduate credits are required along with 30 graduate credits. In the second half of the senior year, a BS-MS student begins their graduate studies. Further, in the first half of the senior year, a BS-MS student may take up to two graduate courses (that will count towards the MS degree), and while a graduate student, they may take additional needed undergraduate courses.
