Julia Bear named interim dean of the College of Business

Dear Stony Brook Community,

I am writing to announce Julia Bear as interim dean of the Stony Brook University College of Business, effective Monday, January 19.

Dr. Bear is an experienced administrator currently serving as the Associate Dean for Research in SBU's College of Business. In this role she has led several key initiatives including the revision of the College's promotion and tenure guidelines. Nationally, she is the president of the International Association of Conflict Management.

Dr. Bear is a full professor in the Organizational Behavior area. She is a leading researcher at the intersection of gender and negotiation and the dynamics underlying gender gaps in organizations. Her research findings have been published in premier management and psychology journals, and she is the author of a book published by Oxford University Press. Dr. Bear is the recipient of multiple best paper awards from the Academy of Management and the International Association of Conflict Management, as well as a Fulbright Fellowship and a Marie Curie Fellowship. She received her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.

I look forward to working with Dr. Bear and thank her for taking on this role. I am also grateful to the College of Business faculty and staff for their input and feedback. We will begin the process of identifying a search committee and searching for a new dean for the College in the coming weeks. I will be in touch with additional information then.
