 Extent, Scope, and Content Note The collection comprises 2 linear ft. of press clips, subject files, reports, and
                                 statements collected by Roy Millenson during his tenure as a staff member under United
                                 States Senator Jacob K. Javits. The date coverage is 1951 to 1973. A scrapbook includes
                                 items documenting Javits' re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives for New
                                 York's 21st Congressional District in 1952.

 Historical Note       A native of Washington, DC and graduate of George Washington University, Roy H. Millenson
                                    served in the Persian Gulf Command of the Army Air Corps during World War II before
                                    eventually returning to Washington and working as a staff member on Capitol Hill. 
                                    He was a member of Senator Jacob K. Javits' staff from 1949 to 1974.
 While a senior Senate staffer, he helped originate and push through landmark legislation
                                    related to the education of gifted children and the handicapped, as well as laws establishing
                                    the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities and the National Science Foundation.
                                    As Washington representative of the American Jewish Committee and on the Hill, he
