Raphael the Storyteller

Raphael is one of the greatest and most influential storytellers of the Western tradition. Yet too often we fail to reflect on how he became so. At the heart of his achievements lies a revolutionary medium: paper. This presentation by Angelamaria Aceto (Ashmolean Museum) explores Raphael’s ingenuity in exploiting this remarkably malleable material to create visually compelling narratives, drawing on the finest collection of his works on paper, now held at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
