If you are planning an extracurricular event that relates to the Humanities, consider holding it at the Humanities Institute! Each semester, we have a limited number of midday slots available for student-run events in the E. Ann Kaplan Lecture Hall (Humanities 1008) and in our Seminar Room (Humanities 1009). For qualifying events, we can provide access to one of our spaces with in-room A/V technology, and some advertising support from our team of interns, at no cost.

Examples of events include:

  • Awareness events about history, culture, or the environment;
  • Hosting a guest speaker;
  • Poetry readings;
  • Reading group meetings;
  • Public conversations about current events from a Humanities perspective

Undergraduates: For your Humanities-related event to qualify for consideration, it must be proposed via a campus club. Please email our Associate Director, Erika Honisch (erika.honisch@stonybrook.edu) for more information.

Graduates: Students enrolled in Humanities MA or PhD programs can propose events individually or as a group. Please email our Associate Director, Erika Honisch (erika.honisch@stonybrook.edu) for more information.

Deadlines:  Events for Fall 2026 must be approved by September 1, 2026. Events for Spring 2027 must be approved by December 20, 2026.
