Abstract: Aclima has developed a next-generation sensing platform that uses mobile measurement to understand air quality at a hyperlocal scale. Unlike the stationary monitoring technology that provides high temporal resolution information of air quality at sparse locations, data from a mobile platform provides complementary air quality information with high spatial and sparse temporal resolution. For the purpose of efficiency,  stationary monitoring sites should be characterized for their degree of spatial representativeness. Similarly,  we should consider when to sample each location with a mobile sensor in order to have the best temporal representativeness from the measurements being collected at each location. In this talk, we will discuss the importance of quantifying representativeness of this new type of data and how we incorporate this consideration into our scientifically designed drive plan (noting that the technologies and data may have proprietary information and intellectual property notices).

Bio: Dr. Kate Hu is the Head of Data Science at Aclima Inc, where she drives the company's data science research and development to deliver hyper-local air pollution maps and insights at unprecedented block-by-block resolution.  Her previous expertise includes methods development for reducing costs of epidemiological studies and data science research in precision agriculture for sustainable farm management amid climate change. Kate graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Hong Kong, received an M.S from Harvard University, and obtained a Ph.D in Biostatistics from the University of Washington, Seattle.
