My project revolves around the concepts of immunity and host-defense against persistent Salmonella infection. Specifically, I am working to elucidate different aspects of the granulomatous response that is induced during chronic salmonellosis. The knowledge I will obtain may apply not only to persistent salmonellosis, but also to host interactions with other bacterial pathogens that cause granulomatous diseases like Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Brucella abortus.
