2025 Graduate Highlight Story

Karisma Persad - Operations Management

The College of Business is proud to honor Karisma Persad, our 2025 Dean’s Choice Award recipient, for her exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and service to the Stony Brook community.

Karisma graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, earning dual specializations in Operations Management and Finance, along with a minor in Information Systems. Her four-year journey reflects a deep commitment to growth, resilience, and excellence—qualities that define this prestigious award.

Reflecting on her academic path, Karisma shared:

“This accomplishment was years in the making—a culmination of hard work, dedication, and personal growth.”

One of her proudest moments came when she was selected to deliver remarks at the College of Business Convocation—a goal she had long envisioned. In her speech, she explored what education means to her:

“It’s an escape from ignorance and a path to liberation. It’s the one thing I could control and consistently give to myself, even in the chaos of life.”

Throughout her time at Stony Brook, Karisma made meaningful contributions across campus and beyond. She:

• Worked as a Research Assistant with Professor Thomas Sexton
• Helped document the Career Center’s history with Marianna Savoca, Ph.D.
• Spearheaded Student Employment Initiatives alongside Michelle Hassman-Burke
  
  

These experiences sharpened her passion for operational excellence and tech-driven solutions, and reflect the impact she has had both in and outside of the classroom.

Karisma expressed deep appreciation for the people who supported her journey:

“A heartfelt thank you to my family, friends, and mentors for their unwavering support and encouragement. It has been an amazing four years, and I look forward to what’s next.”
