First & Fierce: First-Generation Orientation Program
Stony Brook University is excited to launch its inaugural First & Fierce First-Generation Orientation Program for 75 incoming students in Fall 2026. Supported by the SUNY Office of University Life and Student Affairs, this new initiative reflects SUNY’s commitment to student success, access, and opportunity.
Taking place during the first two days of the Week of Welcome (August 17–18, 2026), the program is designed to help first-generation students build connections, strengthen academic readiness, and develop a sense of belonging before the semester begins.
Through interactive workshops, engaging discussions, and meaningful connections with faculty, staff, and peers, participants will gain valuable insights, discover campus resources, and build confidence for their college journey.

to thrive.

For First Generation week every November events include a Fall brunch, a mixer and game night and more! If you or anyone you know is a first generation Seawolf, be sure to join us in celebrating this amazing accomplishment! These events are open to all students, staff and faculty. Everyone’s participation is encouraged!
