David E. Hershberg

Mr Hershberg started his career in 1959 at ITT Laboratories where he worked on the first active satellite program Courier. He worked at ITT until 1972. In 1976 he started Satellite Transmission Systems, sold to California Microwave where he became a Senior VP and member of the board of directors. He recently sold Globecomm Systems Inc. which he founded in 1994 and was CEO for 19 years, for $340 Million and started STS Global. During his tenure as Globecomm CEO, David Hershberg significantly grew the company infrastructure and service business. During this period the company received many industry awards. Mr. Hershberg has championed many new technical and management innovations, and was honored as the recipient of The E&Y “Entrepreneur of the Year Award” for the Long Island region. In March 2008, Mr. Hershberg was inducted into the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame (LITHF).and has received numerous other industry awards. Mr. Hershberg holds MSEE from Columbia University, MS Mgt Science from Stevens Institute of Technology; and a BEE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports that cyber attacks on the electric grid system are increasing in both frequency and sophistication. Such attacks come from a variety of different sources, including nation states and sub-national terrorist organizations. Concern over their ability to hack into U.S. power grid software and possibly disrupt the electrical supply system is growing because such an attack could in both frequency and sophistication. The threat of an attack on the nation's power grid is all too real for the network security professionals who labor every day to keep the country safe. We have seen that no network on the public internet is safe the only way to assure that our power grid is safe is to put it on a private network that can not be hacked.
