William B. Bonvillian

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

William B. Bonvillian has been Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Washington, D.C. Office since 2006. At MIT, he works to support the Institute's strong and historic relations with federal R&D agencies, and its role on national science policy in such areas as advanced manufacturing, energy technologies, online education and life science convergence. Prior to that position, he served for seventeen years as a senior policy advisor in the U.S. Senate. His extensive legislative efforts included science and technology policies and innovation issues.

He is the author (with Georgetown Prof. Charles Weiss) of the Oxford Univ. Press book Technological Innovation for Legacy Sectors (fall 2015) and the MIT Press book Structuring an Energy Technology Revolution (2009), and of numerous journal articles. He has lectured and given speeches before numerous organizations and universities on science, technology and innovation questions, is on the adjunct faculty at Georgetown and Johns Hopkins, and also teaches in this area at MIT. He holds BA and JD degrees from Columbia and an MAR from Yale.
