Tim Reinhardt

Department of Energy (DOE)

Tim Reinhardt is currently at the Department of Energy (DOE), working in the Geothermal Technologies Program (GTP) as a program analyst and program lead/technical manager for Low Temperature resources. As Technology Manager for the Low Temperature, Coproduced and Geopressured resources, Tim provides oversight for existing demonstration projects, and guidance and direction for future low temperature geothermal projects and activities. He received his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Environmental Sciences. He then joined the United States Navy as an officer, serving for nine years as a Naval Aviator. He holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in HR, and a Master’s degree in Energy & Earth Resources from the University of Texas at Austin.


Overview of the Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Program

The Geothermal Technologies Program (GTP) develops innovative geothermal energy technologies to find, access, and use the Nation's geothermal resources. Through research, development, and demonstration efforts that emphasize the advancement of geothermal systems, GTP is working to provide the United States with an abundant, clean, renewable base-load energy source.GTP works in partnership with industry, academia, and DOE's national laboratories to establish geothermal energy as an economically competitive contributor to the U.S. energy supply. Geothermal energy production, a $1.5 billion a year industry, generates electricity or provides heat for direct applications including aquaculture, crop drying, and district heating. GTP's activities build on the technical research base that has been developed over the last two decades. This technical base will provide information and understanding necessary to create new and more efficient and reliable technologies and to enable the U.S. geothermal industry to compete for base-load electricity generation.
