Functional Net Zero, Carbon Neutral Technologies
The Hamptons Green Alliance recently built a 4,600 sq.ft. home with goals to be Net Zero Energy, Embodied Carbon Neutral and LEED Platinum known as the HGA House. A research and development project, their owners have moved in and it is continuing to be monitored for data collection through real time, smart/intelligent metering of energy used. The house was rebuilt after a fire. With three years prior energy data the project provided valuable information on the pay back period for net zero building based on energy savings projections. The presentation will discuss technologies incorporated in the HGA House, new uses for existing solar thermal technologies, integrated photovoltaic technologies, a methodology developed to calculate Phase I embodied carbon footprint of a home and the integrated design process of building beyond a Platinum home. It will address the paradigm for net zero, carbon neutral, low carbon buildings, lessons learned and trends in green building as they relate to ISO 50001.
