Dr. Mark F. Mathias
Director, Electrochemical Energy Research LabGeneral Motors Research and Development
Mark Mathias is a Technical Fellow in General Motors R&D organization in Honeoye Falls, NY. He is overseeing the Electrochemical Energy Research Lab, responsible to develop fuel cell and battery technology needed to enable the broad commercialization of vehicle electrification technology. Mark received a BS in 1982 in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech, a PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1987 from the University of Wisconsin, and then spent two years as a NATO Postdoctoral Fellow at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. He joined Mobil Research and Development Corporation in 1989 and moved to the General Motors in 1998.
Electrification Technology and the Future of the Automobile
Whereas it is clear that we are moving towards less-petroleum-based and lower-carbon-footprint transportation technologies, the nature and the pace of the transformation will be determined by the performance, durability, and cost evolution of several electrification technologies. In this presentation, I will provide automaker perspective on the future of vehicle electrification using current information on battery and fuel cell technology.
