Support for Housing Insecurity
The Student Support Team understands that housing insecurity is a significant challenge many of our students face. Our office is here to help you navigate these difficulties and connect you with available resources both on and off campus.
A Student Support Team member can discuss a variety of options that may be helpful, including university resources.
While you can speak with any member of our team regarding these challenges, Brandon Bjertnes is the homeless liaison at Stony Brook University. He can be reached via email Brandon.Bjertnes@stonybrook.edu or by calling the office at (631) 632-7320.
Housing Options:
On-Campus Housing
This may be an option, dependent on availability. Stony Brook University does not offer discounted or no-cost housing; therefore, it is important to consider the associated costs of living on campus and consider all options.
OFF-Campus Housing
This may be an option for some students. Stony Brook University does not endorse specific off-campus housing; however, we do have resources available to aid in searching for off-campus housing.
EMERGENCY HOUSING
For students facing immediate or imminent homelessness, we strongly encourage you
to contact your local Department of Social Services. They can provide essential information
on emergency housing options and other critical support services. Their numbers are
listed below.

connect with us
We know that navigating hardship while working to earn a degree can be overwhelming. Many students experience housing insecurity and other financial hardships while attending college. It’s important to remember that creating financial and housing stability sometimes requires taking time away from coursework. Taking time away can help you focus on developing stability and become a stronger student when you return. Our office is committed to helping you by providing support and connections to resources that assist you in developing a plan aligned with your needs.
