Extent,Scope, and Content Note
The Vincent F. Seyfried Collection is comprised of 7.5 linear ft. of papers, notebooks,
reports, newspaper clippings, and timetables pertaining to railroads and trolleys
in New York, specifically Long Island, the five boroughs of New York City, and the
Hudson Valley; ca. 1883-1939. The collection is organized in three series by format:
                     1) manuscripts, notes, and newspaper clippings; 2) timetables; and 3) reports. The
manuscripts include Seyfried's extensive typewritten notes about the planning and
construction of elevated trains, subways, and trolley lines throughout Long Island
and New York City. He also meticulously compiled newspaper clippings about the evolution
of public transportation in the region dating back to the late nineteenth century.
The series of annual reports of the New York and Queens Railway Company include important
handwritten proofs and final bound versions spanning the time period of 1883 through
                     1939.
