Historical Note
"Gallaudet Home for Aged and Infirm Deaf-Mutes" was founded in 1886 by the Reverend Thomas Gallaudet (1822-1902), the eldest son of Reverend Thomas H. Gallaudet, as a nursing home for elderly deaf.
The location was a 156-acre parcel of land within the Town of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess
County, New York. The home was destroyed by fire in 1900, but was rebuilt and was in
operation until 1973. (Sources: Gallaudet University and Wikipedia)
