AGEP Scholar: Kaela Teele, Ph.D.

PhD:  Microbiology & Immunology

Email: kaela.teele@stonybrook.edu

I'm Kaela Teele and I'm in the Molecular Cellular Biology Ph.D Program. Previously I attended Wagner College in Staten Island and received my B.S. in Biology, but I'm originally from Connecticut. In my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants with friends and having watch parties.

Why I chose to join AGEP : I chose AGEP because I needed a community of students of color in STEM. As a black woman, I often feel ostracized because I don't fit the expectations of how a scientist should look or have the same experiences as other STEM graduate students. In AGEP, I feel seen and understood. It also gives me the opportunity to explore the many ways I can bring my expertise back to my community.
