Galia Berrondo

Galia is a Mexican PhD candidate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stony Brook University. Her dissertation examines the political organizing of Latin/x American queer and trans migrant artivists, with a particular focus on collective performances in Spain as acts of resistance against liberal migration politics. More broadly, her research explores the formation of transnational networks and alternative forms of citizenship through performative interventions.

A Fulbright-García Robles recipient, she earned her master’s degree in Sociology from the New School for Social Research in 2019. She has been a research assistant at the Center for Research and Gender Studies (CIEG) at UNAM and served as Editorial Assistant for the Mexican journal Debate Feminista.

Her activism has centered on collaborating with community groups and grassroots organizations advocating for the social, economic, and cultural justice for Latin American and Indigenous migrants in Madrid and New York City, including Hands in The Bronx, Mixteca, and the Red de Pueblos Transnacionales.
