Alumna Susan Palmer, BA Sociology, minor in Anthropology, shared that the “Study of Man” has served her well during her decades- long career on Wall Street. Palmer began her career in a training program shortly after graduation and has remained with the same firm through many mergers and acquisitions.
A decade ago, Palmer and a few other women at her firm founded a Women’s Advisory Council, in which she served as the first president. This afforded her the ability to structure the board’s governance and mission statement. The initiative was branded as LIFT, as the goal was to “LIFT” all women, both internally and externally, through advocacy and mentorship, providing them the support needed to succeed. In addition, Palmer is a member of the North Fork Business Advisory Board, the goal of which is to bring high school students and local businesses together through job shadowing, internships, and various other opportunities to learn about career paths. She focuses on supporting her local community and has served as treasurer on the Mattituck Laurel Library Board, vice president of the Mattituck-Laurel Civic Association and rear commodore of the Mattituck Yacht Club.
Palmer and her husband, Carll Austin, live on Long Island where they raised their children, Charles, Chris, Clay, and Caty. Her other interests include sailing and skiing with her family and enjoying her home on Peconic Bay.
