The College of Business offers several scholarships each year to current CoB students,
each ranging from a few hundred dollars to full tuition.
The availability of scholarships varies from year to year and is contingent upon donor
resources and interests, as well as variable economic trends. Accordingly, eligibility
requirements vary by scholarship.
Please note that for all of these scholarships, students must be officially admitted
and matriculated in the College of Business.

Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Established through the generosity of its donors, this scholarship of $1,000 is intended
to support and encourage worthy undergraduate students in the College of Business,
ideally seeking a career in insurance.
Scholarship Amount: $500
Established through the generosity of its donors, this scholarship of $500 is intended
for eligible and worthy graduate students in the College of Business.
Scholarship Amount: Up to $15,710 (as long as health insurance is included)
Established through the generosity of the Comberiate family, this scholarship of up
to $15,710 is intended to support and encourage worthy undergraduate students in the
College of Business. This scholarship will be applied toward tuition and fee charges.
Note: Students participating in the New York State's Excelsior Scholarship will
see a reduction to their Excelsior Scholarship if accepted for this award, as the
Excelsior Scholarship covers any remaining gap in tuition expenses.
Scholarship Amount: $750
Established through the generosity of its donors, this scholarship of $750 is intended
to support and encourage students in the College of Business to pursue a career in
the banking industry.
Scholarship Amount: $1,500
Established through the generosity of its donor, and the interest in preparing undergraduate
students for successful careers in banking, this scholarship of $1,500 is intended
to support and encourage students in the College of Business to pursue a career in
the banking industry.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000
This Scholarship honors Professor Ilana Shanks, who provided a model for intellectual
excellence, unflagging positive energy, and diversity and inclusion in her classes,
the University, and the field of marketing. After receiving her B.S. in Finance from
St. John’s University in 2007 and spending a decade in the financial services industry,
Lana received an MA in Psychology at New York University and a Ph.D. in Marketing
from Florida State in 2019. She joined the Stony Brook College of Business in 2019,
and her students and colleagues alike were deeply impressed by the excitement and
enthusiasm she brought to all aspects of her professional life--whether through her
trailblazing research on consumer responses to advanced technology in the marketplace,
her outstanding teaching and mentorship activities, or her infectious smile. She tragically
passed away in the Spring of 2021, and this Scholarship celebrates her legacy.

Established through the generosity of the London Family, this award is intended to
support and encourage worthy students in the College of Business.
Scholarship Amount: $2,500
Established through the generosity of the Long Island Insurance Education Foundation
(LIIEF), these scholarships are intended to support and encourage students in the
College of Business to pursue a career in the insurance industry.
The insurance industry is a vast and multifaceted sector that plays a critical role
in managing risk and promoting financial stability for individuals, businesses, and
institutions. At its core are insurance companies that develop and underwrite a variety
of policies-such as life, health, auto, property, and casualty insurance-to protect
against potential financial losses.
Agents and brokers serve as the primary link between insurers and customers, providing
expert advice, selling policies, and ensuring proper coverage. Underwriters assess
risk and determine policy terms and pricing, while claims adjusters evaluate damages
and facilitate payouts when policyholders experience loss. Actuaries apply statistical
models to predict risk and help set premium rates. Marketing and sales teams craft
campaigns to attract and retain clients, leveraging both digital and traditional strategies.
Human resources professionals manage talent acquisition, employee relations, training,
and compliance across all operational units.
Additionally, IT and data analysts play an increasingly vital role in streamlining
operation, improving customer experience, and protecting sensitive information. Legal

Together, these diverse roles contribute to the industry's goal of delivering reliable

LIIEF is dedicated to strengthening and growing the insurance industry through the
development of an Insurance and Risk Management curriculum and degree program at Stony
Brook University. This effort, which includes the establishment of an Endowed Chair
in Insurance and Risk Management, is being undertaken with the goals of attracting
the next generation of insurance professionals, providing them with the rigorous academic
training and practical tools they need to succeed, and ultimately, introducing highly
qualified young professionals into the field.

to support and encourage students in the College of Business to pursue a career in
the real estate industry.
Scholarship Amount: $7,500
Established through the generosity of the Real Estate Institute (REI), these scholarships
are intended to support and encourage students in the College of Business to pursue
a career in the real estate industry. REI serves as a resource for professional career
development through symposia, white papers, networking events, coursework and social
media. As part of their partnership with the College of Business, REI provides networking
opportunities, scholarships, internships and other learning opportunities.
Scholarship Amount: $500
This fund is intended to provide an annual award of $500 to an undergraduate student
in the College of Business who shows exceptional promise in the Business Management
program.
