Elise Armani is a Ph.D. candidate in Art History and Criticism at Stony Brook University and the Assistant Curator for Twentieth Century Art at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. Her dissertation examines transnational networks of immigrant and diasporic artists on the Lower East Side of Manhattan following the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. She was a 2023–2024 History of Art and Visual Culture Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a 2024–2025 recipient of the Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellowships in American Art. Her forthcoming book co-written with Katy Siegel, What Was America: Art, Culture, and Politics in the Bicentennial Era, will be published by Yale University Press in September 2026.
