About the Internship
The Academic and Transfer Advising Services Internship is an enriching college experience that combines classroom learning and application of that learning. The internship provides outstanding sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity to gain leadership experience and advising knowledge, improve personal and professional skills, and explore career aspirations while providing assistance to others.

SELECTION CRITERIA
We are looking for a diverse group of undergraduate students who possess the following qualities and qualifications:
- Good academic and disciplinary standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0)
- Minimum of 45 total earned credits (Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing)
- Ability to commit to two semesters (fall and spring)
- Ability to enroll in and attend weekly seminar class, ADV 488, on Mondays, 2:00 PM - 3:20 PM
- Interest in helping transfer students transition to Stony Brook University
- Ability to work with diverse students, staff and community members
- Flexibility, dependability, patience, maturity, strong communication skills, and a commitment to learning
TIME COMMITMENT
Interns can expect to devote approximately 10-14 hours per week to the internship during the semester.
- 6 hours per week: Work in ATAS as transactional support- assisting students with searching for classes, filling out required forms, assisting with advising projects.
- 3 hours per week: Attend a weekly seminar class, Mondays, 2:00 PM - 3:20 PM; complete any assignments given.
- 10-20 hours per semester: Outreach with other Interns to students by organizing and collaborating on events, presentations, tabling, and social media posts regarding academic guidelines, degree requirements, and academic support.
- 12 hours per semester: Shadow Advising Sessions (may also participate in committees)
INTERESTED IN APPLYING?
Interested students must complete an application via Handshake and participate in an interview and selection process. This takes place during the spring semester prior to the first semester of internship participation. The required application materials include a resume and a cover letter. The application will open around early March on Handshake for candidates to apply to. Interviews usually get conducted in late March and offer letters will go out early April.
