University-Industry Integration Efforts on Energy related Research
PI: Anurag Purwar
As the Mechanical Engineering coordinator of the Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) program (founded by New York state in 1994), Prof. Anurag Purwar has identified and is continuing various energy research related projects with local industry. With Siantfin Inc., two students were employed to work on the design and manufacturing of In-floor radiant heating systems; with Hirise Engineering, the work was on the Design of Energy Conversion and Transmission systems in Building Construction; and with Photonix inc., he hired two students to work on the mechanical design of high efficiency intra-cavity Q-switched, harmonic solidstate lasers, with focus on intra-cavity ultraviolet solid-state lasers. In these efforts, Prof. Purwar has been able to garner substantial funding from industry. With the Energy Center, a goal is to attract more projects from industry in the area of energy research. This would further enable a long-standing relationship between the university and NY state based industry. (NY SPIR)
