Biomass to Alcohols at Low Temperatures

PI: Devinder Mahajan

Atom economy envelopes traditional terminologies such as Energy Efficiency, Waste Minimization, and Product Specificity. We are targeting high octane alcohols for production from biomass. We utilize our novel Liquid Phase Low Temperature (LPL1) process approach to catalytically synthesize alcohols from biomass via the Thermochemical route. To efficiently convert remote natural gas and biomass to liquid fuels such as methanol or ethanol. We have developed a patented technology that uses novel low temperature catalysts for synthesis of methanol, a liquid energy carrier. Our goal is to develop an atom economical novel catalysts for ethanol production the catalysts are either single-site or nano clusters. (BNL)
