Barry Watkins

A native of Plymouth, England, Barry studied Mechanical Engineering at Plymouth and Devonport Technical College and after completing five years with the Royal Navy pursued a career in Technical Sales. Prior to immigrating to the United States in 1986 he was President and Founder of Industrial and Marine Acoustics, a leading distributor of noise control and monitoring equipment manufactured in the United States and Europe.

Barry has an extensive background in developing and growing business relationships and partnerships across diverse technical venues and is an effective spokesperson in communicating an organization’s mission. He is an accomplished sales and fund-raising professional with a proven track record in domestic and international markets.

Before joining Alfred University, Barry served as Associate Director – Business Development for the University of Rochester’s Center for Emerging & Innovative Sciences (CEIS) a NYSTAR Center for Advanced Technology.

As Deputy Director for The Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) he builds partnerships and coordinates the activities of a wide spectrum of New York State companies, university researchers, and government officials to promote technology transfer and economic development in New York State. The Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology is a joint venture between university, government and industry, the CACT was established at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
